As a Strategic Writing & Design Intern (Jan. 2024-Aug. 2024), I created and contributed to a range of content supporting the AHA’s mission to improve cardiovascular health nationwide. My work focused on three core areas:
- Chalkboard, the award-winning internal newsletter that blends essential scientific information with creative storytelling to engage staff.
- 3 Big Things, concise, high-impact updates on cardiovascular-related topics distributed across internal channels.
- Designing internal and external resources, including slide decks, infographics, and flyers, using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and PowerPoint.
During my time in this role, I was honored to be recognized on Yello and WayUp’s 2024 list of the Top 100 Interns in the U.S.
Beyond content creation, I collaborated across our national and regional teams to ensure all materials were scientifically accurate, visually compelling, and mission-driven. This experience deepened my ability to translate complex information into accessible communication and strengthened my skills in research, synthesis, and strategic storytelling.
I also gained hands-on experience in nonprofit communications through campaigns such as Life is Why, conducting interviews and writing feature stories spotlighting partnerships with CEFCO, The UPS Store, and Weis Markets.
All materials were created by me while employed at the AHA and are shared here with explicit permission.
