As a Literary Agent Intern (Jun. 2025-Nov. 2025) at Langtons International Agency, I had the opportunity to take my first hands-on step into the publishing industry, bridging my passions for creative writing and strategic communications. I identified and recruited new authors by reviewing submissions, evaluated fiction and nonfiction manuscripts for marketability, structure, character development, and writing quality, and prepared detailed reader reports, including loglines, synopses, and editorial feedback, to guide agency decisions and determine readiness for submission to major publishers. I also conducted comparative title analyses to strategically position manuscripts within the current publishing market.
This internship allowed me to strengthen my editorial judgment, attention to detail, and understanding of audience engagement, while gaining insight into the inner workings of the literary marketplace. Experiencing the process of evaluating manuscripts from multiple angles, commercial potential, storytelling craft, and market positioning, was an invaluable foundation for my broader goals in publishing, both as a communications professional in PR and as an aspiring author. It gave me a first-hand perspective on how compelling narratives connect with readers and how strategic thinking supports an author’s success, making this an exciting and meaningful first step in my publishing journey.
